How We Started
Our Origin Story
Like many great stories, Sand Point Paddling Club began when a dozen or so people started looking for a place to paddle. Our founder, Kristen Schriver, took the lead and found a perfect spot in Magnuson Park.
In the late 1990s, the Seattle Parks Department began to expand water-based activities in the park. The City leased space to Sail Sand Point and outrigger canoeing became a part of Sail Sand Point's general activities.
By 2014, however, outrigger paddling had grown into a viable club of its own and we formally incorporated into a separate, non-profit organization.
Today, SPPC hosts outrigger canoeing, SUP, and surfski activities.
