Outrigger Racing

You Can Race All Year (if you'd like)
SPPC organizes and participates in races throughout the beautiful Pacific Northwest all year long. During non-coronavirus times, we head to Canada for races throughout British Columbia as well as to locations throughout Washington and Oregon. Many of our members participate in the numerous dragon boat and stand up paddle board racing events held throughout our region too.

We are fortunate to have three shipping containers on-site where many of our members can store their own one-man (OC-1) or two-man (OC-2) canoes. As a result, many of us participate in the small boat races held throughout the Winter. In Spring, we hop into the Club OC-6 canoes and start training for the OC-6 racing season.

We create teams that compete in all types of categories and levels of races. For example, we enter all-women's (or men's) crews, mixed-crews, novice crews, or senior master's teams for sprint or long-distance racing.

It doesn't matter if you are new to outrigger or have paddled for years, you are welcome to join our team.
We're a Part of the Pacific Northwest Outrigger Racing Association (Click for More)
As a member of the regional Pacific Northwest Outrigger Racing Association (PNWORCA) and our Canadian partner organization, CORA, we host two races, a small boat race in early Spring and a long-distance changeout race in late Summer. Both races are held on Lake Washington.
One-Man Series Championship Race - end of March
SPPC hosts this race for outrigger, SUP, Surfski, and other small boat racers in early spring.
It marks the final race in a seven-part series. Racers collect points throughout the season to win prizes.
The race culminates with a feast and an awards ceremony to recognize everyone for their efforts throughout the winter.
The Long Distance Challenge Race - end of August
This long-distance race takes full advantage of our access on Lake Washington. We offer several race variations, including: a 26-mile changeout race from Magnuson Park in Seattle, around Mercer Island and back; a 28-mile beach changeout race; and an 18-mile iron-man course.
Some paddlers use this race to prep for upcoming long-distance and changeout races in Hawai'i.
